Message from Ms Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO on the occasion of Global MIL Week 2017
The Director-General of UNESCO notes that more people have access to information than ever before. This opens up vast new horizons, to create and share knowledge, to exchange, to deepen dialogue. It also raises challenges to empower women and men to make the most of new opportunities for the benefit of all, based on human rights.
She says that the key lies in critical thinking, and this is why media and information literacy, and this Global Media and Information Literacy Week, are so important. UNESCO’s Global Media and Information Literacy Week is the moment to raise this flag across the world, under the theme of “Media and Information Literacy in Critical Times: Re-imagining Ways of Learning and Information Environments.”
This has never been so vital.
